Murree is an exurb of Islamabad and the administrative centre of Murree Tehsil, in the Punjab province in Pakistan. It is in a subdivision of Rawalpindi District and includes the parts of the Margalla Hills around Islamabad. It is located in the Pir Panjal Range, some 60 km northeast of Islamabad and Rawalpindi via the Murree Road. Murree was the summer capital of the Punjab Province of British India until 1864.
The hill station is a popular getaway destination for Islamabad’s populace. It is located on the southern slopes of the Western Himalayan foothills as they ascend northeastwards at an average altitude of 2,291 meters. It experiences pleasant summers and cold, snowy winters. The city is noted for its Tudorbethan and neo-gothic architecture dating from the colonial era.
Murree – Things To Do
Ayubia : There is a spot on Murree-Nathiagali Road, near Ayubia Chair Lifts, called “Baander Point”. In this area great number of monkeys live in the jungle. They are so friendly that they come on the road and take food items directly from a person’s hand.
Pathriyata : New Murree is about 15 kilometer away from main Murree hills on the Lower Topa side. It is a well developed hill station with great high rised trees, beautiful hills. A world class chair lift & cable car system takes you from New Murree to Patriata. Total ride is about 7 km long. New Murree is on ground level between the hills.
Kashmir Point : Kashmir Point is a spot on Mall Road, going up from GPO about 1 km. It is at the top of a hill. Hill surface is clean. Scenery looks beautiful from here. Kashmir peaks can be viewed from here that’s why this point is called Kashmir Point. 2 roads/paths go up the GPO towards Kashmir Point.
Mall Road : When ever you go to murree it will be preferred to stay in hotel near mall road. It is a fun place to go and its easy to find tourists there. You can simply find all kind of stuff here from food to traditional dresses and local hand made things. It is a beautiful place to live also a peaceful place. The whole market is worth seeing.
Pindi Point : Pindi point is one of the prime points to visit in Murree. Chair lifts are installed here which go down 1.5 km. Both way distance is 3 km. Scenery from chair lift is magnificent. Zigzag road passes below. Great pine trees stand throughout the journey. When we go down the valley there is a stop point.
Pathriyata Chair Lift : The rate of the chair lift increases every year. Now a days it is 650 Rs per person. Inflation is high in Pakistan so make sure when you estimate your budget keep 25% to 50% extra money with you.
Nathiagali : The best times begins after November, when the snow goddess arrives over the mountains of Galliat and you can make some short treks in Nathigali, to Miranjani 2900 m mountain 3,4 hrs and Mushkpuri track. PC Bhurban’s always a very beautiful place, especially the views from there and there’re some short hikes like Gharial trek.
